There is a critical need for affordable, quality home health care. The founders of Lily Martin Care saw this need and decided to apply their experience and knowledge to help. The inspiration to form a service that would do just that came from their personal family experiences.
Lily, or “Ma Lily”, as she was called, came to the U.S. as a young child not knowing any English, but quickly caught onto the language and culture. She raised her children in Yonkers, NY, and was passionate about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as much of her joy and happiness came from them. A brilliant businesswoman, she and her husband Simon travelled the world many times over, bringing the children her stories and experiences. But the erosion of her mind from dementia prompted her family to make the difficult decision to care for Lily at home, rather than place her in a facility with strangers.
Martin Francis Burke was a loving grandfather, father and husband. As one of 12 children, he held family as the most important part of life. Although he always sported a jovial grin, Martin was haunted by a genetic history of heart disease. Having had his first heart attack at age 33, he would continue living his life with zest through his love of being with family and friends until his third and final attack at the age of 61.
As difficult as it was to see Ma Lily succumb to dementia, the situation was compounded by the fact that she needed extra care, which proved to be extremely daunting. This is one of the reasons why we founded Lily Martin. Today we honor our beloved Ma Lily and Martin by helping to provide families in stressful situations with responsible home health care. They gave the best to all who were lucky enough to be in their presence, and we continue that pattern of love and care by paying it forward with our services.
